Whitney Elizabeth Houston is the youngest of four children born in Newark NJ on the 9th of August 1993. Her parents are gospel singers Cissy Houston, aka Emily Lee Drinkard - and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne Warwick was also a singing sensation. Her first singing gig was in the choir at the church she attended The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark as a young child and by the age of 15, she had begun singing backing vocals professionally with her mother on Chaka Khans 1978 hit Im Every Woman. Her mother, Jermaine and Lou Rawls were some of the artists she backed up. In 1981 her cover was published within Seventeen Magazine. Her vocals with the New York-based group Material have attracted record companies of all sizes such as Arista. They signed her with Arista in 1983, where she spent the remainder of her professional career. Whitney Houston, her debut album, released in 1985 was the highest-selling debut by an artist. Several singles from her album were hit, including The Greatest Love of All and Saving All My Love. In its initial US year of release, the album had sold more than 3 million copies. After that, it was to be purchased by 25 million people worldwide and earned her her first Grammy. The Whitney album from 1987, which featured the songs The Bodyguard, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to, continued her success. However, it came with The Bodyguard of 1992 that was her breakthrough album and made her one of the most successful performers in the history of music. Though the movie was not an instant hit nor did her performance, the score of her Dolly Parton version I Will Always Love You reached the top of both single and album charts in America for a number of months. She sold over 44,000,000 albums around the world. That same year she married ex-New Edition singer Bobby Brown with whom she has a single daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, born in March 1993. Dana Bash, also known as her real name Dana Ruth Schwartz, is a CNN anchorwoman and reporter for the political news.
